Atal Aahar Yojana’ for registered construction labourers launched in Pune

- Workers to receive freshly cooked meal for Rs 5

Pune, August 1, 2019: ‘Atal Aahar Yojana’, an initiative of Labour department and Maharashtra Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board (BOCW), was launched today in Pune with the help of CREDAI-Pune. Through this scheme, the construction workers who are registered under Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board (BOCW) will receive nutritious and freshly cooked meals at just Rs. 5 per day.

The scheme was formally launched in the city at Kalpataru Jade site in Baner today by providing mid-day meal to 400 plus labourers at the site. Dignitaries like J.P. Shroff, Chairman, Kushal and Labour Welfare Committee of CREDAI- Pune, Sheetal Nikam, Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Labour Department, M.A. Mujawar, Government Labour Officer, Parag Patil, Convener, Labour Welfare Committee of CREDAI Pune, Members of labour welfare committee Sameer Belvalkar, Milind Talathi and Indranil Mujugule, Neelkanth Sardesai, Senior Vice President, Projects, Kalpataru, Dr. D.K. Abhyankar, Director General, CREDAI Pune, Vishwas Kadam, Sanjay Chavan from Kalapataru and Sameer Parkhi, Labour Welfare Officer of CREDAI Pune were present for the event.

Shroff said, “We are proud to help launch this scheme as food is the fundamental necessity of every human being and labourers play a prime role in any construction.  Feeding over 5-6 lakh labourers in Maharashtra alone for just Rs 5 is not an easy task as the food should be hygienic and should be delivered on time. All the labourers are happy with the scheme and we are happy to contribute.”

Mujawar told the labourers about the government scheme for making their own house.

''Any labourer who owns a plot of around 500 Sq. Ft. in his village or a Kaccha house and wishes to build a Pucca house on it, will be given Rs 1.5 lakh aid by the government provided that he has been registered with BOCW before May 31, 2019.

The labourer will have to submit his registration receipts, 7/12 extract and an authorized letter stating a need for a house with the department. The government after verifying will offer aid and after completion of the house will offer additional Rs 50,000 to the labourer,” He said.

Nikam said, “There are many schemes for workers being provided by the labour department. Those seeking scholarships for their school and college going children and those seeking aid to build homes in their villages should file an application with us for benefits.”

Sardesai said, “We want to thank Suhas Merchant, President of CREDAI-Pune for his contribution toward this cause. We hope that all labourers will take advantage of it.”
